We are registered with the Mission Peak District in the Golden Gate Area Council. Our charter organization is the American Legion Post 837. We have been happily contributing to the area’s community since 1967. We are highly active in the northern Fremont area. We meet at Cabrillo Elementary School during the school year, and at Crandall Creek Park during the summers.
We are a relatively small, inclusive, and friendly troop. As of July 2024, we have around two dozen scouts all with various backgrounds and ages.
We are open to recruiting any boy aged 11 to 18 or who has completed 5th grade!
Our troop is very active and does many activities, including hikes, bike rides, campouts,
food drives, and community service projects that make the 40-hour community service requirements in high school very easy. Community service projects are a big part of our troop and we have made a largely positive impact on our community.
The most notable event of the year is the week-long camping trip that we do over the summer months. This is a week packed with fun and enthralling activities
that make the week an extremely memorable experience!
One of the things we take the most pride in is our leadership model. Our troop runs off of a “youth-led” model.
This means that when making a decision, the responsibility ultimately lands on the scouts, rather than the adults. This is a good thing because it strengthens leadership
skills that will be needed later in life. Another big thing that our troop is proud of is the rate at which our scouts can get Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest
rank in Boy Scouts and can help a lot as you apply for college or a government job. Of the last 10 scouts who have left Troop 449 a total seven have made it to the prestigious rank.
This is an incredible statistic since the total average in all of Boy Scouts is a 2% Eagle rate!
